BIOGRAPHY

Petri Mäkiharju began his bass studies in pop-jazz music, but his career soon turned to classical music. After moving to the classical side, Mäkiharju's main instrument became the double bass and he quickly became one of the most sought-after double bassists in Finland.

He has worked in most Finnish professional orchestras and has been the principal of the Tampere Philharmonic's double bass group since 2005. Mäkiharju is one of the few Finnish double bassists who has also performed regularly as a soloist. He is a widely used chamber musician and a regular visitor at several chamber music festivals in Finland and abroad.
